This early ranch house prototype from 1940, situated on a rocky wooded site offered vistas onto a wooded, secluded landscape, but the
sixty year-old spaces were in dire need of attention. Drawing inspiration from Mediterranian sources with its cream-colored stucco and stone siding, Frank Lloyd Wright's prairie houses with their low-slung hipped
rooflines and the solid bones of the existing house, the project seeks to open and connect the existing spaces, both horizontally and vertically and to add a large, modern master bedroom suite. The ceilings have
been raised and modulated through the use of coffers, trays, elegant mouldings and innovative lighting designs. The windows have been replaced throughout the house with new custom casement units designed in the
prairie style. A spacious stone terrace features a gazebo and reflecting pool, connecting the house to the surrounding landscape and swimming pool. |
